Analysis of Stephen Gallacher, Richard Sterne and Thorbjørn Olesen
Stephen Gallacher shot his best ever round on the European Tour (62) to take a 3 shot lead into the final round. With 18 holes to go he heads up the Par 4 Scoring statistic as well as the Genworth Putts per GIR and Putts per Round statistics. Some say you need something special to happen in order to win on the European Tour these days. With 4 shots holed from off the green plus 4 eagles already this week, Stephen certainly ticks that box.
Richard Sterne shot a great third round of 66 but incredibly it has left him 3 shots off the lead with 18 holes to go. Through the day he hit 9 Fairways, 13 Greens in Regulation and Scrambled 4/5 times. But it was Richard’s putting that really excelled. He holed numerous long putts to add another 7 birdies to his tally for the week - now standing at 21 in total (more than any other player).
Thorbjørn Olesen managed to stay within touching distance with a round of 67. Although he ranks down in 56th out of the remaining 71 players for Driving Accuracy, he has still been able to hit 79.6% of the Greens in Regulation (in doing so ranking 3rd for Birdies per Round). He may need a low one to catch the front two tomorrow, but overall it has been a fantastic Middle East Swing for the rising Danish star.
