Genworth Stats Pack - Round 1 Review

Round 1 of the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles produced 80 sub-par rounds and a field average score of 71.46. We analyse the performances of the leaders Bernd Wiesberger and Ricardo Gonzalez, plus we round up the early Genworth Statistics leaders.

Bernd WIESBERGER -7

Bernd Wiesberger fired in seven birdies on his way to a bogey free first round 65, taking an early lead over a bunched leaderboard alongside Ricardo Gonzalez. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 27 year old talent averaged a huge 312 yards off the tee as well as 16/18 Greens in Regulation, plus 27 putts in total. As a two time European Tour winner, the long hitting Austrian has shown some good form over the past couple of months (including two top four finishes), currently sitting in 39th position on the Race to Dubai.

Ricardo GONZALEZ -7

Ricardo Gonzalez converted one eagle and seven birdies against two bogeys on his way to a first round 65, matching Bernd Wiesberger. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 43 year old Argentine golfer ranked 23rd for Driving Accuracy and 38th for Greens in Regulation, but it was his performance on the greens that really stands out, ranking inside the top three for each of the putting categories. The four time European Tour winner is moving along steadily on the Race to Dubai (currently in 109th position). A big week would move him towards the top 60 and entry into the upcoming Final Series.
