Genworth Stats Pack - Preview Report

This week the Genworth Stats Pack heads to the beautiful setting of Crans-sur-Sierre for the 42nd staging of the Omega European Masters. Our preview highlights some of the marquee players and those with recent form / course form coming into the event.

Paul CASEY

Paul Casey has competed in this event 6 times before (with a best of 3rd in 2005) and he arrives in superb form with a win and three very solid performances from his last four starts (all big tournaments). Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the middle of June, the 36 year old English golfer is hitting 71.7% Greens in Regulation as well as 17.2% of the Par 5 greens in sub-regulation (two shots), plus he is scrambling for Par 55.9% of the time when the greens are missed. With so much control over his game the 12 time European Tour winner ranks 2nd for overall Stroke Average. A good driving week could see Paul walk away with this one.

Joost LUITEN

Joost Luiten has competed in this event 4 times before (with a best of 15th in 2011) and he arrives as one of the form players with finishes of Win / 10th / 2nd / 49th / Cut / 4th from his last six starts. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the middle of June, the 27 year old golfer from the Netherlands is looking extremely strong from tee to green, ranking 20th for Driving Accuracy, 13th for Greens in Regulation and 12th for Scrambles, all leading to solid scoring across the different holes types (Par 3’s / Par 4’s / Par 5’s) and a ranking of 6th for overall Stroke Average. In many people’s eyes Joost starts as the tournament favourite.

Richie RAMSAY

Richie Ramsay has competed in this event four times before and he arrives as the defending champion in steady form off the back of a 10th place finish in Wales. The 30 year old Scottish golfer has played a very difficult recent schedule of events so his Genworth Statistics since the middle of June are distorted, whereas in reality he is driving it straight off the tee and still hitting plenty of greens. Twelve months ago the two time European Tour winner produced some imperious tee to green play, leading the Greens in Regulation statistic and eventually winning by four shots. A good putting week may be the vital ingredient for a strong title defence.

Miguel Angel JIMÉNEZ

Miguel Angel Jiménez has competed in this event an incredible 23 times before, attending every year all the way back to 1990. His record over the last five years has been fantastic with finishes of 3rd, 4th, Win, 9th and 11th most recently in 2012. Much the same as Richie Ramsay, the 49 year old Spanish maestro has played a very difficult schedule of recent events, so his Genworth Statistics since the middle of June are somewhat distorted. But even so he is showing a sublime touch on and around the greens and some excellent finishes in the recent biggest of events. Could this week end in a 20th illustrious European Tour victory?

Brett RUMFORD

Brett Rumford has competed in this event 13 times before (winning in 2007) and he arrives off the back of two top ten finishes in Scotland and Wales. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the middle of June, the 36 year old Australian golfer has played a difficult schedule of events, so the stats will once again be distorted (especially the long game stats). But as you can see the short game and putting is looking rock solid as always. Brett is arguably the best putter in the world this year, ranking 1st for overall Putts per Round on the European Tour.

Peter UIHLEIN

Peter Uihlein competes in this event for the first time and he arrives off the back of a runner-up finish last week in Wales (it was one that perhaps got away considering he had a three shot lead going into Sunday). Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the middle of June, the 24 year old golfer from the United States ranks 3rd for Driving Distance (averaging a huge 315 yards off the tee), 8th for Birdies per Round and 14th for overall Stroke Average. Interestingly Peter’s recent Par 3 Scoring seems to be quite a bit weaker than the Par 4’s and Par 5’s. We look for that to improve this week.

Jamie DONALDSON

Jamie Donaldson has competed in this event 9 times before, showing some consistent form over the Crans-sur-Sierre course in recent years (23rd / 3rd / 9th from his last three visits). Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the middle of June, the 37 year old Welsh golfer ranks 41st for Greens in Regulation, 2nd for Scrambles and 26th for overall Stroke Average, which is very good considering the tough schedule of events that he has played over that period. The same as Paul Casey, a good driving week may lead to a big result.

Richard STERNE

Richard Sterne has competed in this event 6 times before (with a best of 14th in 2008) and he arrives off the back of a series of good results in the big events (22nd / 2nd / 31st / 21st / 9th / Cut from his last six starts). Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the middle of June, the 32 year old South African is looking steady across the board with no real weaknesses in his game (confirmed by an overall Stroke Average ranking of 18th). Currently sitting in 4th position on the Race to Dubai, the six time European Tour winner is enjoying a lucrative year.

Simon DYSON

Simon Dyson has competed in this event 11 times before (with a best of 4th in 2002) and he arrives having played himself into some consistent form, after having struggled over the first half of the year (by his standards). Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the middle of June, the 35 year old English golfer ranks 17th for Driving Accuracy and 14th for Greens in Regulation (plus he is hitting 17.4% of the Par 5 greens in sub-regulation two shots), which is all leading to comparatively few dropped shots and an overall Stroke Average ranking of 8th. Don’t be surprised to see the six time European Tour champion in contention this week, in his attempt to close up on the top 60 for The Final Series.

Matteo MANASSERO

Matteo Manassero has competed in this event 4 times before (with a best of 3rd in 2010) but he arrives in pretty average form of late (by his standards). Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 20 year old Italian maestro most definitely has his eye in on the greens but the longer clubs don’t seem to be quite as sharp as usual. Any slight dip in form is not surprising though, following on from the heroic win at Wentworth in May. Overall, Matteo sits in 5th position on the Race to Dubai with four career European Tour titles under his belt already. He is a class act that can win in any given week.
