Sergio García launched the 2011 Castello Masters on Tuesday by hitting a ball from the bows of a boat off the Castello beach into the Mediterranean Sea.
Garcia has played the role of host since winning the first edition of the €2 million event on his home course at Club de Campo del Mediterráneo in Castellón, near Valencia, Spain. His shot from the boat some 100 metres off the Castello Beach heralds the fourth playing of the event on the course where Garcia learnt his trade.
Next week’s Castello Masters will see 2012 Ryder Cup Captain, José Maria Olazábal, a winner of 23 titles on The European Tour, and Matteo Mannassero, who last year took the title to become the youngest winner in the history of The European Tour, among the star players joining Garcia in Castellon.
