The former World Number Two, now ranked 64th after over two and a half years without a win, began his birdie run at the sixth before holing eagle putts from 25 feet at the ninth and nearly 40 feet on the 11th.

Seven under par for his last six holes, he was 19 under in total, with fellow Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal 17 under after a bogey at the 13th and South African Retief Goosen three behind in third.

Overnight leader Mark Foster was part of a group five back.

Garcia handed top spot back to Larrazabal with a third-successive bogey on the 14th, but Larrazabal, who double bogeyed the 16th last year when two in front, bogeyed it this time.

They were both 16 under, one ahead of Goosen, who had three-putted the 14th after another short miss.
