Gallacher joins Finch in front

Stephen Gallacher took a share of the lead as the second round of the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles began in Perthshire.

The first groups out had completed only three holes when foggy conditions became too bad to continue.

In that time, however, Frenchman Grégory Bourdy joined England's Richard Finch in the lead at six under par with two opening birdies, but then bogeyed the third.

Scot Gallacher, one behind overnight, parred his first two holes, but Italian Francesco Molinari, now certain to be making his Ryder Cup debut in October following Ross McGowan's injury withdrawal, bogeyed the short tenth and slipped to three under.

It proved to be only a 30-minute stoppage and on the resumption Molinari birdied the 11th to return to four under.

Former Ryder Cup Captain Sam Torrance, meanwhile, withdrew with a neck problem. Two days after his 57th birthday he had managed only an 83 yesterday.

A sponsor's invitation had enabled Torrance to take his record number of European Tour starts to 706, but it was far from a week to remember.

With Finch among the later starters, Gallacher seized the chance to go joint leader with a three on the 320 yard 14th, his fifth.

And it became a three-way tie when France's Julien Guerrier set off again with two successive birdies.
