Full swing ahead for AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open

Preparations for the inaugural AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open are in full swing, with just over one month to go until the first tri-sanctioned golf tournament by the Asian, Sunshine and European Tours.

The Heritage

The tournament, which will be played at the Heritage Golf Club from May 7 - 10, 2015 will draw players from each of the three Tours.

Ryan Dodds, General Manager at Heritage Golf Club, said: “We are very privileged to be hosting the first ever tri-sanctioned tournament of the three Tours. This will shine the international spotlight on the world class facilities at Heritage Resorts and the idyllic Indian Ocean golfing destination.

“Mauritius boasts superb golfing conditions year round, combine that with a perfectly manicured golf course, the exceptional Mauritian hospitality, and you have all the ingredients necessary for an outstanding tournament.”

The Heritage Golf Club was recently recognised as “The best golf course in the Indian Ocean” at the Inaugural World Golf Awards held in November 2014. The 18-hole, par-72 championship course was crafted with the utmost care to incorporate the features of a naturally hilly landscape.

“We are at advanced stages in the preparation for the tournament, and we are also currently running a consumer competition to give a lucky winner an opportunity to be a part of golf history in the making,” said Dodds. “We have had an overwhelming response from the professional players and are already oversubscribed for the tournament. Once all details have been finalised an announcement on the final list will be made.”

AfrAsia Bank General Manager Thierry Vallet said: “The world’s top golfers will be involved in the tournament, and we at AfrAsia Bank wanted to seize this opportunity to promote the event worldwide. Our brand ambassadors Max Orrin and Hennie Otto will conduct golf clinics for our clients, and we are also planning to have a number of activities for non-golfers and children. We are expecting around 240 golf players to participate in the Pro-Am before the main tournament, and we are confident that both golf enthusiasts and the general public will seize this unique opportunity to come and see the top world golfers in action.”

To add on to the excitement of the tournament for the spectators, additional fun activities will be made available at the Heritage Golf Club for the duration of the tournament. The activities will include a climbing wall, mini zip line, laser tag, quad-biking, buggy rides, and a golf simulator.

Dodds added: “We are also very excited to welcome our most recent partners – internationally renowned beer Heineken, wine maker Vinta Bordeaux, Coca-Cola, Vital water, telecommunication giant Orange and leading local destination management company Mautourco. They join the other sponsors who have all come together to make the inaugural AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open a success. Through their support, and valuable insights this indeed promises to be a thrilling tournament.”
