Friday's Five Best Matches

A total of 40 players will tee it up on Friday with a chance of a winning a place in the last 16 of the WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship. Here's the five matches we're looking forward to watching the most.

McIlroy Horschel 2007 Walker Cup

2.30pm: Rory McIlroy (2-0) vs Billy Horschel (2-0)

From the moment the draw was made, this looked like being one of the matches of the group stage. Now with a place in the last 16 on the line, it might have become 'the' match of day three. McIlroy and Horschel faced off against each other eight years ago at the 2007 Walker Cup, splitting two matches, in what was a heated display of golf. Today, the 2014 Race To Dubai and Fedex Cup champions will battle to decide Group 1. Neither player has trailed for a single hole so far this week.

11:50am: Jordan Spieth (2-0) vs Lee Westwood (2-0)

This has all the makings of a classic youth versus experience Ryder Cup match up. Westwood, playing his 51st WGC event, will look to tame the red-hot Spieth, playing just his seventh. The young American has made more birdies through two rounds than anyone else (13) and finished off Matt Every on Thursday with ten consecutive one putts. Westwood, on the other hand, has endured to hard-fought matches with Every and Mikko Ilonen, both of which were decided on the 18th green. In 14 appearances at the WGC Match Play, Westwood has only made it to the last 16 once.

12:20pm: Danny Willett (2-0) vs Andy Sullivan (1-1)

The all-English match up features two of hottest players on the European Tour. Together they have already won three European Tour titles this season and have both made impressive starts to their debuts at the WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship. If Willett wins, he will automatically advance to the last 16. If Sullivan wins and Ryan Moore defeats Patrick Reed, Sullivan will take the last 16 spot. If Sullivan and Reed win, they will join Willett for a three-way place off to decide the group.

11:30am: Sergio Garcia (1-1) vs Jamie Donaldson (1-1)

Garcia and Donaldson

The last time these two went head-to-head was probably on the table tennis table in the team room at the Ryder Cup last year. The two European Ryder Cup stars will face off on Friday both still in the hunt for a spot in the last 16. With Fleetwood and Wiesberger also splitting their first two matches, all four players can still qualify. For Sergio to advance, he needs to win and have Fleetwood win. For Donaldson to take lead the group he needs to win and have Wiesberger win.

1.10pm: Bubba Watson (2-0) vs Louis Oosthuizen (2-0)

Bubba and Louis

The last time these two faced off, there was a Green Jacket on the line. The pair who decided the 2012 Masters in a two-hole playoff will play each other on Friday for a place in the last 16. Oosthuizen is yet to make a bogey this week, carding nine birdies and eagle in his two wins, whilst Bubba has shown the type of match play form that has seen him make the last 16 in this event in three of the past four years. Expect plenty of birdies in this match!
