The European Challenge Tour is back in Denmark this week for the Frederikshavn Challenge - Presented by HESSEL. Here’s everything you need to know…
Danish Number Ones
Marcus Helligkilde became the third Dane to win the Road to Mallorca Rankings after he triumphed at the 2021 Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A. Helligkilde finished on eight under par to secure an emotional victory at T Golf & Country Club and become the third Challenge Tour Number One to hail from Denmark, after 15-time DP World Tour winner Thomas Bjørn in 1995 and 2018 Rankings winner JB Hansen.
Oliver Hundebøll currently sits in second place on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, courtesy of victory at the Mangaung Open and four further top tens, with aspirations of joining that illustrious list of Danes.
Danish golf is looking strong with the Højgaard twins emerging as Europe's next breakout stars in recent years. Nicolai and Rasmus began their careers on the Challenge Tour and they have both gone on to become DP World Tour winners.
Frederikshavn Golfklub
Frederikshavn Golfklub, located on the northern outskirts of Frederikshavn, is laid out within a peaceful forest which offers beautiful visuals including lakes and streams. The tree-lined “Amen Corner” consisting of holes 13 to 15, provides the toughest stretch on the course which can quickly ruin a scorecard.
The venue boasts exceptional training facilities, including a par-three course, driving range, chipping green and three putting greens, providing golfers with everything they need for success. The clubhouse offers a well-equipped pro shop consisting of the latest brands and a large restaurant with an outside terrace.
Business end of the season
This week marks the ten-event countdown to the end of the season, with everything still to play for. The top 20 on the Road to Mallorca Rankings at the end of the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A will earn DP World Tour playing privileges for 2023 and the last ten tournaments of the season provide an opportunity to seize a top 20 spot. Sweden’s Jens Dantorp current leadings the Rankings, while New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier occupies 20th and final spot.
