Marcus Fraser continued his run of fine finishes to get within a shot of the lead heading into the final round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
The Australian arrived in Scotland needing a big finish to the season, sitting at 175th in the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex with just two events left after this week left to try and keep his playing privileges.
A 67 at Kingsbarns Golf Links left him just a shot behind Tyrrell Hatton heading into Sunday and if he is to have a big finish to his year, it may well be kick-started by big finishes to his rounds.
After birdieing two of his last three on days one and two, he hit a brilliant approach into the 17th on Saturday and followed it with a putt of over 80 feet on the last, sealing a birdie-birdie finish and a 13 under par total.
“On the back, just the finish there, really capped off and turned it into a really good round,” he said. “Monster putt on the last, a bit of a bonus.
“I felt like I played actually a little bit better than yesterday and it was nice to get a few putts at the end to justify that.
“I feel like I'm pretty relaxed out there, which is rare for me. I'm enjoying being out there.”
Tommy Fleetwood is two shots behind Fraser after a 67 over the Old Course at St Andrews but he could not replicate his finish - three-putting his final three holes.
Despite that disappointment, the reigning Race to Dubai champion is still right in the mix and eager to achieve another ambition in his career.
“I want my picture on that bridge with the trophy,” he said. “There's quite a few tournaments you want to win but this one is right up there and it's the Home of Golf.
“It would be great. I'd like to tick this one off and get this one on my resumé.”
Stephen Gallacher has done that before in 2004 and he was sat alongside Fleetwood at 11 under after a 66.
The Scot has finished in the top 50 in his last four events and will be looking to use all his experience on Sunday.
“I've been playing lovely the last two months,” he said. “You've got to be patient, delighted the way I'm swinging and hitting it.
“I think if you're four back or something like that and the weather is bad and you shoot five under you've got a chance but who knows.”
