Rickie Fowler's Abu Dhabi bunker shot has been named European Tour Shot of the Month for January, receiving nearly half of the votes from My European Tour fans.
After double bogeying the seventh hole during the final round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, Fowler's lead was down to just one shot as he headed down the par five eighth hole. Having gone for the green in two with a driver off the deck, the American faced a tricky 40 yard bunker shot for his third.
One swing of his sand wedge later and Fowler had holed out for eagle, extended his lead to three and reignited his charge to victory.
"I hit it a great drive and then got it up there just short." Fowler said after his win. "From there I hit the perfect bunker shot. My caddie said 'you know, golf is funny that way.' When something happens like that, it definitely gives you a little boost of confidence knowing that you've got a good break after having a bad break. Sometimes you need to little luck on your side to get some wins."
Fowler's shot earned 43 per cent of the fan votes to beat out competition from the likes of Rory McIlroy (33 per cent), Jordan Spieth (10 per cent), Haydn Porteous (7 per cent) and Gregory Havret (5 per cent).
