England's Tommy Fleetwood finished second in the WGC-Mexico Championship in Mexico City to solidify his place at the summit of the European Tour's Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex, gaining a hearty 984,271 points after being denied victory by the USA's Dustin Johnson who claimed the trophy with a one-stroke triumph at Club de Golf Chapultepec.
The 26-year-old, who has already booked his place in the DP World Tour Championship Dubai, hosted by Jumeirah Golf Estates from November 16-19 after victory in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, continued his fine start to the year with an assured performance in Mexico City which took his season total to 1,550,987 points.
Spain's John Rahm finished in a tie for third with Englishman Ross Fisher on 12-under while overnight leader, the USA's Justin Thomas, ended up with a 72 to finish three strokes behind in a share of fifth with the impressive Thomas Pieters of Belgium.
Expected challenges from Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson never left the launch pad as they started the day two strokes from the lead, carding 71 to tie for seventh on 10-under.
Fisher and Rahm won 468,117 points each, with Fisher making a spectacular jump from 132nd to fourth in the Race to Dubai while Rahm moved to seventh.
Ryder Cup sensation Pieters gained 294,339 points and catapulted from 148th to 16th while three-time Race to Dubai champion McIlroy claimed 199,366 points to move from 42nd to 17th.
England's Tyrrell Hatton finished in 10th to gain 156,353 points and move from 28th to 14th.
Paraguay's Fabrizio Zanotti and Spain's Sergio Garcia shared 12th to win 123,622 points each and book their places in the prestigious season-ending tournament in Dubai, open only to the top 60 players in the rankings. Zanotti strengthened his second place position in the Race to Dubai, upping his season tally to 585,312 while Garcia moved from fifth to third with 533,847 points.
Last season's DP World Tour Championship winner Matthew Fitzpatrick finished in 16th to gain 99,016 points and move from 50th to 31st.
England's Andy Sullivan and France's Francesco Molinari shared 20th and won 86,026 points each. Sullivan moved 98 positions as he jumped from 153rd to 55th and Molinari remained in 68th.
Moving to South Africa, Dean Burmester secured a maiden European Tour title with a three-shot victory at the Tshwane Open after a blistering start to his final round saw him surge away from the field.
The 27-year-old gained 190,055 points and made a stunning leap in the Race to Dubai, moving from 26th to 11th as he targets to make his first DP World Tour Championship appearance.
Mikko Korhonen of Finland and Spaniard Jorge Campillo were joint runners-up on 269 with American Peter Uihlein a further stroke back after he carded five birdies on the back nine of his final round to storm up the field.
Korhonen and Campillo gained 110,436 points each in the Race to Dubai rankings. The Finn moved from 62nd to 32nd while Campillo jumped from 39th to 26th.
Australian youngster Ben Eccles clinched a first-ever top-10 finish on the European Tour with a share of ninth, but it could have been so much better for the 2015 NSW Open champion.
The 22-year-old carded a closing even-par 71 leaving him at 10-under for the tournament - eight shots off Burmester - 24 hours after shooting a sizzling 64 to move within two shots of the lead. Eccles gained 23,621 points which saw him drop to 130th in the Race to Dubai.
Uihlein's fourth place finish won him 58,875 points to move from 24th to 23rd. Alexander Bjork of Sweden finished in fifth to gain 49,522 points and move from 45th to 41st.
