Flawless Bourdy delighted with performance

Grégory Bourdy became the first player in Seve Trophy by Golf+ history to collect a maximum five points as Continental Europe secured a 15-13 victory at Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche.

Having gathered four points in tandem with Joost Luiten during the week, Bourdy delighted the home fans as the Frenchman produced some scintillating golf to beat Scott Jamieson4 and 3.

Bourdy almost holed his approach to the sixth for one of five birdies, as he helped José María Olazábal capture the trophy for the first time since 2000.

Of his remarkable rookie performance, Bourdy said: “I'm so happy to achieve that, and it was an amazing week for me.

“I did my job and I’m proud to get five points for this amazing captain, Chema Olazábal; he's a great champion.

“I'm happy to get five points for him and for the team. It was great to play here in front of my French crowd and in Saint Nom la Bretèche, it's a great course, and I love to play in team events. I love, also, match play, so I enjoyed this week a lot, especially my doubles with Joost, and then today again a great round.”

Olazábal also praised his stand-out performer, commenting: “Special mention for him, especially at his home crowd in front of his people; the way he played, being a rookie, he did extraordinarily well.

“This is a team event. Everyone contributed, and obviously Greg did it in a big way.”
