Five to watch in Morocco

As we return to the stunning Golf du Palais Royal in Agadir, europeantour.com picks out five guys to keep an eye out for this week at the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco.

Magnus A Carlsson

Alejandro Cañizares

Alejandro Canizares

It’s hard to look past Cañizares for your Fantasy team for this week. The Spaniard opened with a ten under par 62 last year and went wire-to-wire for his second European Tour title. He comes into this week’s event in better form than he did a year ago. He is seventh on The European Tour in scoring average (69.56) and eighth in Putts per Round (27.8) and has finished inside the top 15 in three of his last five starts. In five appearances at Golf du Palais Royal, Cañizares has never missed the cut.

David Horsey

David Horsey

Few players look forward to this week’s event as much as David Horsey. The Englishman has finished in the top 30 in each of his five appearances here including a win in 2011, a runner-up two years later and an eighth place finish last year. Amazingly, Horsey has shot 17 straight rounds of par or better at Golf du Palais Royal. While his form this season has not been up to the standard we’ve come to expect from the three-time European Tour winner, he did open with a 63 at the Tshwane Open in his last start, en route to a top ten finish. Horsey eventweetedhis excitement earlier this week.

Ross Fisher

Ross Fisher

Sitting third in The Race To Dubai, Fisher has enjoyed a return to the consistent form which saw him qualify for the 2010 Ryder Cup team. He has finished inside the top 30 in all six of his starts this season including a runner-up finish at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. Fisher seems to relish The European Tour’s worldwide schedule, having won his five European Tour titles in five different countries (South Africa, Ireland, Spain, England and the Netherlands). Last year was his only appearance at the Trophée Hassan II, when he shot 70-73-71-72 and finished in a tie for 37th.

Emiliano Grillo

Emiliano Grillo

Welcome back Emiliano Grillo! The young Argentine will tee it on The European Tour this week for the first time as a top 100 player in the world. Having won his home Open in his last start in 2014, the 22 year old got his European Tour start off to a strong start with a top five finish in Qatar. Grillo tied his best professional finish two weeks ago at the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open where he finished runner-up to Alex Cejka. Grillo finished 11th here in 2013 in his only appearance and enters the week having made 13 straight European Tour cuts.

Magnus A. Carlsson

Carlsson may fly under the radar this week but we think the Swede has the game to contend in Morocco. He finished third here last year, having lead the field in Greens in Regulation, and has already started the 2015 season well. Having been on and off The European Tour in recent years, the 34 year old has made 12 of his last 14 cuts and notched two 15 finishes already this year, including his last start at Africa Open three weeks ago.
