Fitzpatrick eager to keep top 50 spot

Matthew Fitzpatrick has said he is constantly re-evaluating his goals after an impressive 2015, but that breaking into top 50 in the rankings remains an important one.
 
After winning the British Masters supported by Sky Sports last October, the Englishman recorded three top ten finishes in five tournaments.
 
Fitzpatrick, who is currently the World Number 44, could be in contention for a place in the European Ryder Cup team if he can continue his strong form from last year.
 
“I think for me personally, they change all the time with the position that I’m in,” the 21 year old said. “Obviously I’m hovering around the top 50 right now, so it’s maintaining and obviously to try and get higher than that.
 
“Obviously everyone is trying to win every tournament they play. That’s my goal, and this year just happens to be a Ryder Cup year as well, so that’s another thing I’ll be looking for. It’s not something I try to get too caught up with.”
 
As a member of the European EURASIA CUP presented by DRB-HICOM 2016 team, Fitzpatrick has already experienced a team environment and said that the experience has made him look at the way he approaches each event.
 
“Everyone was sort of having a good laugh and enjoying themselves. I think that was the big thing that Darren [Clarke] tried to promote, as well, is that you just want to go out there and enjoy yourself and normally when that happens you play your best golf. I think that’s the sort of mentality that I’m trying to take personally into each week.
