Fisher withdraws from WGC - Bridgestone

Ryder Cup player Ross Fisher has withdrawn from this week's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in America to stay with his wife and their ill three-month-old son Harry.

Fisher's defence of the Irish Open title last week took a back seat when the baby was taken to hospital in Killarney on Saturday night.

The 30-year-old father-of-two returned to play the final round, but fell from fifth to 17th place with a closing 73 and immediately headed back to the hospital.

Manager Conor Ridge said on Monday that Fisher's son was being kept in until Friday. "Harry should be fine - it looks like it's just precautionary," he added.

A decision has still to be taken on whether Fisher, fifth in the US Open two years ago, plays in next week's US PGA Championship in Atlanta, the final major of the season.

His two-year-old daughter Eve was born just after he was in contention for The Open at Turnberry.
