Ross Fisher maintained his place at the top of the leaderboard after a rollercoaster start to the third round of the Tshwane Open on Saturday.
Fisher held a one shot lead over Denmark's Morten Ørum Madsen at the halfway stage following rounds of 66 and 65 at Copperleaf Golf & Country Estate, the latter including a back nine of just 30 shots.
And the former Ryder Cup star remained in pole position to claim a first European Tour title in almost four years despite registering just two pars over the front nine.
A bogey at the first was followed by birdies on the second and third, both thanks to putts of around 25 feet, before the 33 year old scrambled a par on the fourth after finding a bunker off the tee.
The former World Number 17 found more sand on the par three fifth and missed from four feet for par, but hit back in superb fashion with an approach to the sixth which finished just inches from the hole.
His birdie putt at the seventh was also a formality from two feet and, after a par at the long eighth, Fisher converted a ten foot birdie effort at the next to turn in 33.
At 16 under par Fisher led by three from South African Jake Roos, with the latter’s compatriots Darren Fichardt and Hennie Otto on 12 under.
