Ross Fisher continued his recent resurgence as Thongchai Jaidee stormed into contention in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.
After helping Europe emerge victorious in The 2010 Ryder Cup at the Celtic Manor Resort, Englishman Fisher fell from 17th in the World Golf Rankings to 157th.
Yet, since slipping to that lowly position, Fisher has enjoyed four successive top ten finishes and, in the meantime, qualified for next week’s Open Championship.
He is warming up at the Castle Stuart Golf Links in fine style today and found himself just two off the lead after picking up four shots in his opening six holes to move to 10 under par.
Resuming on six under, Fisher birdied the long second and the fifth either side of eagling the driveable 306 yard third.
Yet that effort was overshadowed by a sparkling performance from Jaidee on a front nine that contained five birdies and four pars.
The 42 year old, a five time winner on The European Tour whose last victory came at this year’s ISPS Handa Wales Open, subsequently moved to 11 under - just a shot adrift of leaders Alexander Noren and Francesco Molinari.
Home favourite Stephen Gallacher was alongside Fisher and Swede Joel Sjöholm having reached the 17th on six under for the day.
Three time Major Champion Padraig Harrington was eight under alongside 2010 Open Championship victor Louis Oosthuizen, while Henrik Stenson was nine under after collecting three birdies in seven holes.
