The long association between the Challenge Tour and Finland dates back 20 years to the first Finnish tournament on the tour, the Talma Finnish Challenge, which was won by Sweden’s Klas Eriksson

In 2015, Dominic Foos made Challenge Tour history when, at the age of 17, he went wire-to-wire to become the Tour's youngest ever winner.

The 2018 edition of the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge produced its first home winner, with Kim Koivu lifting the trophy after a play-off victory over Robert MacIntyre. Koivu claimed his second title of the season at Vierumäki Golf Resort in front of the home crowd en route to winning three times in 2018 and graduating to the European Tour.
