Final round pushed back in Madeira

The final round of the Madeira Islands Open – BPI – Portugal was delayed on Sunday morning due to flooding at the Clube de Gold do Santo da Serra course.

The green keepers bale the water out of a bunker on the 18th green during a rain delay prior to the continuation of the first round of the Madeira Islands Open

An 8am shotgun start had been scheduled for the 82 players who made the cut after 18 holes, with the first round taking three days to complete due to strong winds and heavy rain.

But that was pushed back to allow greenkeepers to dry out the course - however further downpours mean an announcement will now be made at 13.00.

Denmark’s Joachim B Hansen is holding a one shot lead on four under par as he pursues a maiden European Tour title.

However, with eight players tied for second a shot further back, and just six shots covering the field, an exciting finish was on the cards.
