Field full of stars for Shipco Masters

The inaugural Shipco Masters promoted by Simon’s Golf Club boast a star-studded field as it makes its debut on the Staysure Tour.

The over-50s circuit makes its first appearance on European soil for the 2018 season and four victorious former European Ryder Cup captains will be teeing off in Denmark, June 1-3.

2014’s winning captain Paul McGinley, 2010 victorious captain and five-time winner of The Ryder Cup as a player Colin Montgomerie, José María Olazábal who masterminded the Miracle at Medinah, and Ian Woosnam who led Team Europe to a thrashing of Team USA in 2006.

Alongside the victorious Ryder Cup four are 11 other former Ryder Cup players from the 1970s through to 2002; including Peter Baker, Gordon Brand Jnr, Eamonn Darcy, David Gilford, Barry Lane, Philip Price, Ronan Rafferty, Costantino Rocca, Jarmo Sandelin, Des Smyth, and Philip Walton.

Last season’s John Jacobs Trophy winner Clark Dennis, who topped the Order of Merit in 2017 will also be heading to Denmark, along with former Staysure Tour Number One Peter Fowler.

Taking their places in the maiden Shipco Masters field are five players who came through the qualifying event; Nick Mitchell, Peter Scott, Søren Telling, Mark Wharton and Peter Wilson.

“We are overwhelmed by the great field of players coming to Shipco Masters. It is amazing to see so many of the top European legendary players gathered at one place outside the Senior Open. We are all very excited at Simon’s Golf Club and can hardly wait to get under way,” said General Manager of Shipco Masters, Henrik Bergqvist.
