Farry advocates the magic of Mauritius

Marc Farry is confident the allure of Mauritius will once again guarantee a stunning finale to the European Senior Tour season at the MCB Tour Championship from December 7-9.

The Frenchman, sponsored by the host resort of Constance Belle Mare Plage where he has his own academy, has been a regular visitor to the spectacular island for more than a decade and his contribution to promoting the island on the world stage was recognised last year when he was made an official Ambassador for Mauritius.

Farry was instrumental in introducing the event to the Senior Tour three years ago and continues to play an active role in liaising between players, sponsors and the Senior Tour.

“The pros love it there – they love playing there and bringing their wife for a holiday before or afterwards,” he said. “It’s a fantastic venue and I’m very pleased that it became the Tour Championship, as it means it’s now a much stronger event with a limited field and some big names coming from America.

“Tom Lehman is playing, and he’s right up there on the money list for the Champions Tour, and we also have David Frost, plus all the superstar seniors from Europe, so it’ll be a very strong field to finish the season. It will be a great event, as it is every year.”

Lehman, of course, will be defending the title after his wire-to-wire victory following a captivating final round battle with South African Frost. And Farry hopes his recent good form, which included a joint second in the PON Senior Open and joint third in Japan, will spur him onto victory.

“It is an absolute pleasure being involved with the whole thing because it’s a fabulous place and a great event,” he added. “I try to get the best players to play there, and I’m also involved in the course set-up for the tournament.

“It’s basically a PR job for the full year before the tournament. And I can’t wait.”

The top-class field will vie for the lion’s share of the €400,000 prize fund over 54 holes on Constance Belle Mare Plage’s Legend Course, which lies along 2km of white sandy beach on the eastern coast of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean.
