Matthias Schwab

The 26-year-old is churning out the top-10s while he still waits for his maiden European Tour title. His T8 in Denmark last week was his fifth top-10 this season, and he also finished T11 at the British Masters. He was runner-up at Green Eagle when this tournament was last played in 2019 and T7 the year before. Surely, he must win soon.

Sam Horsfield

The Englishman made his first major cut at the PGA Championship a couple of weeks ago (finishing T49) and has finished no worse than T21, with three top-10s, in his five regular European Tour events this year. He’ll be able to get to the course much earlier in the week than many players because he’s travelling from America.

Joost Luiten

His T15 last week was encouraging for his first start in four weeks after he withdrew during the Tenerife Open and finished inside the top-12 in his three events prior to that. He’s been statistically strong in most areas this season, ranking 13th in stroke average, 2nd in bogey avoidance, and 3rd in greens in regulation.

Paul Casey

The 2019 winner returns to Hamburg on the back of a T4 at the PGA Championship two weeks ago. The English man has had a great start to 2021 with a win in Dubai, confirming his pedigree for Ryder Cup selection. The world number 21 ranks second in Greens in Regulation this year and will be looking to capture his 16th wins on the European Tour

Abraham Ancer - The Mexican flies into Germany after recording a T14 on the PGA Tour last week. The world number 17th hits 72% of fairways (ranked 3rd) and 70% of Green in Regulation (ranked 14th) and has a killer short game if he does miss the green (8th in scrambling). He demonstrated his class at the PGA Championship finishing with a 65 to land himself a top 10.  Ancer is the quality in this field and may come as a surprise that you can pick him.

Bernd Wiesberger

My first captain’s pick to win a tournament, Bernd has to be in your team after his five shot victory in Denmark

Weisberger’s ball striking is strong with 70% of greens hit this year, he also finished 5th at Green Eagle GC in 2019 (event was cancelled in 2020) with

The world number 50 is within touching distance of a seat on the plane to Whistling Straits, it looks like he is peaking at just the right time.
