Fantasy Five To Watch In Dubai

It is Tuesday morning, it is the final event of the Desert Swing and that means it is time for the Fantasy Five To Watch for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Here are the players we have hand-selected as the ones you should strongly consider for yourFantasy Race To Dubaiteam.

Stephen Gallacher

The term “horses for courses” could not be more fitting when describing Stephen Gallacher’s relationship with Emirates Golf Club. The two-time defending champion makes his 15th appearance at the event this year and has two wins, a runner-up and two more top 10 finishes. Over the last three years he is an incredible 55 under par with a scoring average of 67.4. Only Alvaro Quiros has beaten the Scot here since 2012.

Rory McIlroy

There are not many courses that do not suit the World Number One, but Rory has a special affinity for this event. He has finished inside the top ten in all of his last five appearances and won his first European Tour title here back in 2009. He will be hoping to improve on his 73.0 final round scoring average at Emirates Golf Club but with finishes of first, first, first, second, second, second in his last six European Tour starts, no one is in better form than The 2014 Race to Dubai champion.

Emiliano Grillo

The 22 year old is quickly becoming one of the most consistent performers on The European Tour. He enters the week off the back of a strong fifth place finish in Qatar, where he finished the event with a streak of 56 holes without a bogey. The Argentine may not be the longest player on Tour but he was one of only two European Tour players that hit more than 75% of fairways and 70% of greens in regulation last season – Thomas Aiken being the other. He also finished runner-up to Stephen Gallacher here in Dubai last season.

Tommy Fleetwood

Fleetwood is considered by many to be one of the future superstars of The European Tour. A breakout 2014 season saw the Englishman finish in the top five at six events including three runner-up finishes in China, Wales and Scotland. He finished in the top ten here in 2013 and has only shot over par once in ten career rounds at Emirates Golf Club. His aggressive, long style of play should suit this venue so keep an eye out for the 24 year old this weekend.

Thomas Pieters

The big-hitting Belgian burst onto the scene in Abu Dhabi where he played in the final group with Martin Kaymer on Sunday. In his second year of university in the US, he won the NCAA Division I title, beating the likes of Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth and Patrick Cantlay. He has two top ten finishes in his last three starts and with four par fives under 570 yards this week, the rookie will hope to use his length off the tee to challenge for his first European Tour title.
