Every has his day

Matt Every hit a six under 64 to take a two shot lead after the second round at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

The American started with an impressive 66 but put together an even better follow-up to move to ten under through two days.

Canadian David Hearn and Swede Carl Pettersson are his nearest challengers after they closed with overall scores of eight under.

Every picked up five shots on the front nine, with back-to-back birdies at three and four and three more in succession between seven and nine.

Things were quieter on the back nine, but a birdie three at the 12th kept things moving.

Hearn had a mixed round, with successive bogeys on the the second and third threatening to derail his round.

But they were the only blemishes on card of 66 that included four birdies and an eagle at the par five ninth.

The low score of the day came from Zimbabwe's Brendon de Jonge, who signed for an eight under 62.

He had a bogey-free day and regular birdies as he took nine strokes off his first round 71 to take a share of fourth alongside Pat Perez and Doug Labelle II. All three are seven under.

Overnight leader Graham DeLaet fell well away from the leaders, with a 72 that pegged him back to five under.

The cut came at one under, with Kyle Reifers the most surprising player outside that mark.

Reifers had been tied for second after the first day after shooting five under but he could only manage a five over score of 75 this time to finish level par.
