The visitors went into Sunday's singles matches with a commanding 9-3 lead after taking 4½ points on both Friday and Saturday.

And Darren Clarke's men started brightly on day three, finding themselves ahead in eight of the 12 clashes in late morning.

Asia were up in just two games, with Anirban Lahiri and K.T Kim leading at the turn against Shane Lowry and Bernd Wiesberger respectively.

Ian Poulter was three up against home favourite Danny Chia after 12 holes, while fellow Ryder Cup star Lee Westwood led Nicholas Fung by the same scoreline after seven holes thanks to some sensational putting.

Danny Willett recovered from going two down against Byeong-hun An after seven holes to lead by one after 11, while fellow Yorkshireman Matt Fitzpatrick was one up against the winner of last year's inaugural Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play Kiradech Aphibarnrat.

Andy Sullivan was two up against Thongchai Jaidee, with Chris Wood leading SSP Chawrasia by one and Søren Kjeldsen one up against Prayad Marksaeng in the day's last match.

Kristoffer Broberg was two up against Shingo Katayama after five holes, while Ross Fisher was all square with Jeung Hun Wang in match eight, Victor Dubuisson level with Wu Ashun after four holes.

The shot of the morning came from Poulter, who sent his approach at the ninth to within a foot of the hole on his way to regaining his two-hole lead.

The 40 year old then lost the next hole after failing to make par, but bounced back in style, taking the 11th and 12th to go three up as he looks to earn a point for the third day in a row.
