Euram Bank Open: Tournament guide

The Road to Mallorca heads to Austria this week for the Euram Bank Open, taking place at Golf Club Adamstal Franz Wittmann. Here’s everything you need to know for the week ahead.

Adam Valley

GC Adamstal

Golf Club Adamstal is set in the middle of the Lower Austrian foothills of the Alps and is recognised as one of the world’s most beautiful courses with unmatched scenery. Each hole on the Championship Course at Golf Club Adamstal has its own name and they all present their own unique charm.

The fifth hole, To The Rock Face, offers direct views of the striking rock formations called the Unterberg that were discovered during construction of the fairway. Information on each hole can be viewed here: https://www.adamstal.at/en/championship-course/

A driving force

Franz Wittmann

Franz Wittmann is considered the most successful rally driver in Austria with 12 national championship titles. Wittman had a deep love for golf and drove Golf Cub Adamstal to life when he laid out a nine-hole course in 1995. Wittman went on to become President of the Austrian Golf Association from 2006-2013, where he played a pivotal role in bringing through the next generation of Austrian golfers. Wittmann is described as the ‘local legend’ in the surrounding areas and Golf Club Adamstal Franz Wittmann has been named after him.

A dedicated architect

In 1998, Canadian Jeff Howes was brought in to extend the course to 18 holes and he now reflects on the Austrian layout as one of his greatest achievements. Howes has over 25 years of experience working alongside the world’s best golf course designers, including the great Jack Nicklaus. Howes has always kept the integrity of the natural surroundings when designing his golf courses and this is apparent at Golf Club Adamstal as it follows the natural contours of the land.

The 19th hole

Golf Club Adamstal

The 19th hole, otherwise known as the Brunnstube, at Golf Club Adamstal is located in a stunning valley which has a mountain spring that has provided Adamstal with drinking water for more than a century. The Brunnstube is often used as a betting hole to decide the outcome of a match or who pays for the drinks.
