Els delighted to be back at Doral

After missing his trip to the famed Blue Monster course at Trump Doral last year, reigning Open Champion Ernie Els is delighted to be back at the WGC – Cadillac Championship and a venue where the big South African took home the title in 2010.

Els’s success here three years ago played a huge role in the revival in form and fortunes which saw the 43 year old rediscover his Major-winning form at Royal Lytham & St Annes last summer, when he collected the second Claret Jug and fourth Major Championship of his illustrious career.

His win at Doral in 2010 was his second World Golf Championship victory (he also won the 2004 WGC event at Mount Juliet in Ireland) and he would love nothing more than to end this week with a  hat-trick of WGCs.

“It's great to be back,” said Els. “I didn't play this event last year as I was outside of the top 50 in the world. I've been coming here since 1994, so to miss it out last year was almost like missing out on the Masters like I did last year, too.

“I've had some great events here and it’s just a wonderful South Florida venue for us.  You know, if you think of Doral, you think of the Blue Monster and so many great champions that have won here. It is special to be among them.

“My win here in 2010 was a big one for me. I went on and won my next event after that and it really got me going again and believing in myself. Whenever you win a World Golf Championships event, you've done something good.  You've beat the best players in the world, so it's always fun to do that.”
