Simon Dyson charged into a share of the lead during the second round of the Barclays Singapore Open before lightning halted play again at Sentosa Golf Club.
With half the field unable to complete their opening rounds due to lightning on day one, Chapchai Nirat produced a bogey-free round of 65 to claim the outright lead as the first round was completed this morning.
Organisers looked to make up for lost time with a quick turnaround, and Dyson promptly reeled off four unanswered birdies in his first 13 holes to join Nirat on six under par, before the thunderstorms rolled in again to bring play to a further halt to proceedings.
Dyson, who has six European Tour titles to his credit, started on the back nine, and birdies at the 12th, 14th and 18th holes saw him turn in 32.
A further gain at the first hole brought him level with 29 year old Thai Nirat, who carded two bogeys and two birdies in the first eight holes of his second round to remain on six under par.
Overnight leader Thomas Björn – who completed a five under par round of 66 yesterday – was not due to tee off until late in the afternoon, and had been joined by the Italian pair Francesco Molinari and Matteo Manassero.
World Number One and Race to Dubai leader Rory McIlroy birdied the 11th hole to sign for an opening round of 70, but a double bogey at the 13th hole in his second round contributed to him dropping back to level par through 11 holes of round two, with the cut predicted to fall at one over par.
Play resumed at 3:30pm local time after a delay of nearly two hours, but it was only for 15 minutes as another storm cell arrived.
McIlroy had time to birdie the 480 yard third, hitting another superb iron to three feet and moving to one under, but his final shot before the second suspension was a drive down the long fourth that was pulled left towards the hazard.
Dyson, meanwhile, found sand on the fifth and by failing to get up and down he slipped to five under and Nirat was alone in front.
