Simon Dyson has targeted a top 20 finish in the Race to Dubai as he prepares to defend his KLM Open title at Hilversumsche.
Dyson, who also won this competition in 2006, has surged up the rankings with some impressive performances in recent weeks.
After finishing 12th in the US PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, the 32 year old achieved back to back top ten finishes at the Czech Open and Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.
Dyson was unable to continue his fine form at last week’s Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre, finishing in a tie for 60th. However, he remains positive ahead of a return to the Netherlands, having twice tasted success at the Kennemer Golf and Country Club - the venue for the last four KLM Opens.
“Obviously I am very fond of Kennemer and have played very well there,” he said. “I did play here four years ago but to be completely honest I can’t remember much about it. Hopefully it will all come flooding back.
“I hit a brick wall last week in Switzerland. I was doing okay and then woke up on the Saturday and knew straight away that it was going to be a long old day.
“But I have three weeks off after this week and hopefully I have managed to conserve a bit of energy so that I can out there this week and give it everything.
"Over the last couple of months I have had a nice run of consecutive weeks and have played the best golf that I have all year.
“I am now 42nd in the Race to Dubai so if I have some strong weeks between now and Dubai hopefully I can break into the top 20, which would be a great season.
“That’s the main aim – that and actually winning a tournament because that is the best feeling you can get.”
European Ryder Cup rookie Martin Kaymer is another player with high expectations after claiming his first Major title last month.
The 25 year old German will be making his first appearance since his US PGA Championship victory at Whistling Straits, but sees no reason why he cannot come out on top once again.
“We will see how it goes after three weeks off but I feel good, rested and I think I am ready to win again,” said Kaymer.
“Two years ago I really felt the pressure to get into The Ryder Cup Team but this year is very different – I qualified easily by winning the PGA and I see this week as a good way to get ready for the Ryder Cup.”
