Dunne holds two shot lead ahead of final round

Paul Dunne will take a two stroke lead into the final day of the Trophée Hassan II after closing his third round with a long-range birdie putt at the last.

Paul Dunne

The Irishman led by a single shot as he stood at the 18th tee after carding five birdies and a double bogey in his opening 17 holes, but he coolly rolled in from 20 feet to pick up another shot and get to eight under par.

Italy's Renato Paratore was two shots back in second after posting a course-record 66 earlier on Saturday.

Englishman Paul Waring, Spain's Pablo Larrazábal and Dane Lasse Jensen were then in a tie for third on five under.

Dunne started the day two shots behind halfway leader Grégory Havret but he was soon out in front courtesy of birdies at the first, fourth and fifth holes.

The 24 year old made another gain at the tenth before rolling in his four foot birdie putt at the 12th to get to nine under.

A disappointing double bogey at the next saw Dunne, who is searching for his first European Tour title, lose the outright lead but he safely parred the next four holes before notching a birdie at the last to sign for a 69.

Dunne said: "I've been playing well recently and I haven't played a tournament for four weeks with the break we had so I felt like it took me a while to get going with my swing this week.

"But today was a much easier round than the last couple of days. I didn’t putt as well as I did in the last couple of days but I hit the ball a lot better.

"I'm really pleased, I’ve been doing some good work and I'm happy with where I am.

"If I break 70 again I think it’s going to be hard for someone to catch me so I'm just going to try and do that."

Early starter Paratore began his third round seven shots off the halfway lead after posting scores of 73 and 74 on Thursday and Friday respectively.

He opened with a birdie at the first to get back to level par before making gains at each of the par fives on the front nine - the fifth and the eighth.

The 20 year old then started the back nine with back-to-back birdies to get to four under and sit just two strokes off the lead.

After dropping his first shot of the day at the 13th, Paratore bounced back with birdies at the 14th and 15th.

And he finished his round with another gain at the par-five last to get to six under.

It's always good to shoot a course record - Renato Paratore

Paratore's third-round effort matched his lowest-ever score on the European Tour - he also posted seven-under-par rounds at the D+D REAL Czech Masters in 2015 and the Omega European Masters a year later.

He was thrilled with his display. He said: "I played really well today, holed a lot of putts and that helped me a lot today.

"Everything was good and then in the last six holes, I finished really well so it was a great round.

"I played really solid from the tee and the short game was really good too. I think it is probably the best round on the European Tour. It’s a nice thing for me, it's always good to shoot a course record.

"It’s a really tough course because from the tee it’s narrow and the greens are really tight so it's a good test. It's really nice to play in the final groups tomorrow, it will be a very nice day."
