Dubuisson eyeing Ryder Cup berth

France’s Victor Dubuisson continued to enjoy a dream World Golf Championships debut as he beat Swedish Ryder Cup star Peter Hanson 3 and 1 at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.

Dubuisson, who enjoyed a breakthrough win at the Turkish Airlines Open in November, overcame American Kevin Streelman 5 and 4 on day one, but believes his performance against Hanson surpassed that.

“I played much better golf,” said the 23 year old. “Yesterday I made some important putts but today it was more difficult against Peter.

“I decided to play my own stroke play against the course and not watch him too much because he was hitting some good shots and I didn’t want it to disturb myself. I stayed focused on my game and made some good birdies.”

Dubuisson’s win in Turkey has helped propel him to second in the Ryder Cup points race, and after setting up a last 16 clash with former Masters Tournament winner Bubba Watson the World Number 30 admits he would like to be playing some more match play at Gleneagles later in the year.

“I don’t like to say it’s my biggest target of the year because I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself, but it is,” he added.

“For me this week is important to get some points and try and release a bit of pressure of getting on the Ryder Cup team.”
