Dubois back to his best in China

Edouard Dubois believes he is back on track, after struggling with form in the wake of his mother’s death during the summer, as the Frenchman moved into contention at The Foshan Open following a four under par second round 68.

The 2011 European Challenge Tour graduate had a huge personal battle midway through 2015 when he lost his mother and he admitted he initially could not focus when he did return to the golf course.

But a tied third place finish at the EMC Challenge Open in Rome signalled a return to form for the 26 year old and, as he enters the weekend in China just four shots back, he is happy with how his game is progressing.

“They’ve been two really good rounds to start with,” said Dubois, who currently sits just inside the cut-off point for the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final, in 45th place.

“My long game is really solid, I think I have only missed one fairway on the first day – when I actually lost my ball – but today it was really good from the tee and my putting has been good this week, which has made a change from previous weeks, so I’m really happy.

“The course is fantastic here, in very good shape, and it’s a please to play. I’m just on the cut line for the Grand Final so I just need a good week to get to Oman in two weeks and maybe it might be even better if the weekend goes well, so it was a good move this week.

“I would have to have to have gone to Qualifying School Second Stage if I missed the cut so now I am going to try and complete a good week and get myself into the Grand Final, but you never know. I know if I get a result too, I can get into the top 15 so it will be an important weekend for me.

“I started the year well but then my mother passed away over the summer, so it was tough for me to play golf tournaments. I just wanted to go home and be with my father and my girlfriend. It wasn’t easy, but I’m feeling better for about a month now.

“Rome (where he finished tied third) was good for me. I’m feeling good, my game is good now so I hope I can take advantage of that this week. It was really, really tough this summer so if I can get to the Grand Final after what has happened this year, I will be really happy.

“Now, golf gives me an escape, but that wasn’t the case before. For about a month it’s been better and I’m feeling a lot better.”
