Dream start for Donaldson

Jamie Donaldson moved into a share of the lead as the third round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship began in calmer conditions at Trump National Doral.

The Welshman had been part of a quartet of Europeans on level par overnight, one behind the all-American four man leading group.

Donaldson joined Hunter Mahan, Patrick Reed, Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar on one under with a birdie from two feet at the first after a fine pitch.

And the 38 year old, a two-time European Tour winner, holed an enormous 50 foot putt at the short fourth to join Kuchar, who had also birdied the long first, on two under.

They were a shot clear of Johnson, Mahan and Reed, while on level par World Number One Tiger Woods had made a spectacular surge through the field.

Five over par after two rounds, the 14-time Major winner mixed six birdies with a single bogey over his first 12 holes to reignite his title defence.

Former Masters Tournament winner Zach Johnson and Northern Irish pair Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy were also on level par, with all three still playing the front nine.
