Argentine Angel Cabrera, the two-time Major Champion, will hope to mark the tenth anniversary of his compatriot Eduardo Romero’s victory in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open by capturing the title himself at Castle Stuart Golf Links from July 12-15.
Romero is the only South American to win the prestigious event so far, defeating Swede Freddie Jacobson in a play-off at Loch Lomond in 2002 for his eighth and last European Tour title, and Cabrera will hope to follow in his footsteps at Castle Stuart, which hosts the £2.5million event for a second consecutive year.
Cabrera, South America’s most successful golfer, won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club in 2005, and two years later he captured the US Open Championship before claiming the Green Jacket by winning the Masters Tournament at Augusta National in 2009.
The 42 year old’s last regular European Tour appearance was at Castle Stuart 12 months ago, when he carded a superb second round of 64 en route to finishing tied third and he will be looking to improve on that performance when he takes his place in a world class field.
Cabrera is one of ten Major Champions on show at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, joining a list that includes defending champion and World Number One Luke Donald, three-time Major winners Ernie Els and Padraig Harrington, and Scotland’s own Open Champions Paul Lawrie and Sandy Lyle.
Advance ticket savings are still available for the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, with adult one day tickets currently costing £30 – a reduction of £5 on the gate price. Adult season tickets are currently priced at £70, offering a £10 saving on the gate price.
