Donaldson claims first win of 2015 in Thailand

Jamie Donaldson fired the best round of the final day at the Thailand Golf Championship to secure his first victory of 2015.

Donaldson carded a 65 as he came from behind to beat playing partners Clément Sordet and Lee Westwood by three shots at 21 under.

The Welshman bounced back from an erratic 71 on Saturday, which had seen him slip two shots behind 23 year old Sordet at the Asian Tour event.

After quickly hauling himself ahead with three straight birdies, Donaldson was able to walk up the last with the comfort of a two stroke lead after sinking a long birdie putt which rattled in at the par three 17th.

"This is certainly one of my best victories. There are a lot of good players playing in the tournament this week. The field is very strong and to beat these guys is great,” said Donaldson.

Donaldson's win meant that he booked his place at next year's Open Championship along with Sordet and Westwood. Sixteen-year-old Phachara Khongwatmai will also appear at Royal Troon after earning his place with a 66 at the picturesque Amata Spring Country Club to finish sixth.
