Donaldson and Westwood take aim at Czech clinic

Jamie Donaldson and Lee Westwood, close friends and partners at The 2014 Ryder Cup, were forced to turn foes following their first rounds at the D+D REAL Czech Masters as they put on a hugely entertaining show which ended with them hitting golf balls at cardboard cutouts of each other.

The British duo, who claimed two out of three points when partnering each other at Gleneagles, played in the same group on day one at Albatross Golf Resort, with Englishman Westwood starting solidly with a two under 70 as his quest for a tenth Ryder Cup appearance continues.

Donaldson, the 2014 champion of this event who struck the winning shot for Paul McGinley’s European side two years ago, joined Westwood on the range as they entertained big crowds by displaying an array of golf shots and answering questions about their successful careers.

But the real fun began when they were tasked with hitting five golf balls each, with the aim of the game to strike over-sized cardboard cutouts of each other.

They were encouraged to visualise the one time when they may have angered each other the most and let rip at the targets. As they each got closer and closer to the bullseye, the game went to sudden death before Westwood dealt the fatal blow by clocking his pal Donaldson’s doppelganger square in the chest.

It was all much to the delight and enjoyment of the throngs of Czech golf fans that gathered to watch their heroes and it no doubt provides a precursor to the entertainment to follow out on the course for the remainder of the tournament.
