Donald aims to keep on winning

Luke Donald has vowed not to rest on his laurels as he aims to build on what has already been an incredibly successful season.

The World Number One already has one World Golf Championships victory after winning the Accenture Match Play, and is now looking to add the Bridgestone Invitational to his wins at Dove Mountain, the BMW PGA Championship and Barclays Scottish Open.

Three victories in 2011 have taken the Englishman to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking, the head of The Race to Dubai and left him well in contention for the US PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup.

But Donald insists there is plenty left to achieve before the season finishes.

“This is always a fun week,” said The Ryder Cup star.

“It's a challenging golf course. A great tournament to win, as well.

“There's always room for improvement. There's a lot to achieve in this game, and yeah, it's been a solid year. The last couple Majors haven't been very good for me, but outside of that, it's been very, very good.

“I had a good run at Augusta, had a good chance there but didn't play my best at the US Open, and my short game at The Open Championship was very poor and let me down.

“I learned that my short game really wasn't good enough that week.  I really put it down to being a little bit of an anomaly because that's the one part of my game that's usually very solid. I hit the ball decent - I didn't hit it great, but I hit it decent enough to compete. It's just one of those weeks that's very different to every other week in terms of the greens, in terms of the short game stuff. And I did a lot of preparation for it, but it just didn't happen that week unfortunately.

Asked about the possibility of becoming the first player to finish top of both the US PGA and European Tour money lists, Donald added: “That would be fun. No one has ever done it before.

“That's obviously an incentive to try and win both the FedEx and The Race to Dubai.”
