Robert Dinwiddie stormed into a two shot lead midway through the second day of the Telenet Trophy as he signed for a six under par 65 to take the clubhouse lead on nine under par at Royal Waterloo Golf Club, outside Brussels.
The Englishman got off to a good start as he birdied the second and third holes before picking up two more shots to reach the turn in four under par.
A chip-in at the twelfth hole for par helped maintain his momentum before he birdied the following hole and another at the par five 17th moved him two shots clear of the pack.
“I got a couple of birdies early on and got under par quickly and then I played pretty steady for the most part after that,” said the 30 year old.
“I sank a couple of ten-footers and holed out well for the most part. I did chip in for par at the 12th so that was pretty nice, it was good to keep the momentum going.
“It’s a good score and our side of the draw has been very lucky with the weather. It is really cold when the rain comes in and I haven’t had much yet. I’m happy to be done and in the clubhouse.”
Former European Tour winner Rhys Davies was one of the players two shots behind Dinwiddie midway through the second day, during which the first round was concluded following overnight delays.
And eagle at the 17th hole, his eighth, helped the Welshman to a four under par 68 as he joined Daniel Gaunt of Australia and Frenchman Charles-Edouard Russo on seven under par.
