DID YOU KNOW – FACTS ABOUT WGC EVENTS
*Tiger Woods holds the record for most WGC victories, with 16. Seven have come in the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational, six in the WGC – CA Championship and three in the WGC – Accenture Match Play.
*His 16 wins have come in just 32 WGC appearances.
*From those 32 appearances he has won 16, finished second twice and been placed in the top ten 29 times.
*After Woods, Geoff Ogilvy is the next most prolific winner, with three; twice at the WGC - Accenture Match Play in 2006 and 2009 and WGC – CA Championship in 2008.
*There have been 36 individual WGC events. Jeff Maggert won the inaugural tournament at the 1999 WGC – Accenture Match Play.
*The 36 WGC events have produced 16 different winners from eight different countries.
DID YOU KNOW – WGC – HSBC CHAMPIONS
*Defending champion Phil Mickelson will be out to claim his third victory at the Sheshan International Golf Club. Should he win again it would mark the first time he has successfully defended a European Tour title. The last person to win the same European Tour event in consecutive years was Padraig Harrington at the 2007 and 2008 Open Championship.
*Tiger Woods is the only player to make a successful defence of a WGC title.
*The quality of the field is highlighted by the fact that all four of the 2010 Major Champions are playing as well as the three 2010 WGC winners. The top four players in the World Rankings are present and eight of the top ten. In all 30 of the field of 78 are within the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking.
*Should a European Tour Member win the WGC – HSBC Champions it will mark the first time that European Tour Members have won three of the four WGC events in the same season. So far Ian Poulter won the WGC – Accenture Match Play and Ernie Els (WGC – CA Championship).
