• By winning the Portugal Masters in 2009, Lee Westwood greatly enhanced his chances of winning The Race to Dubai; which he dually did. This victory in Portugal was the Englishman’s 19th European Tour title and first in this country. Prior o the Portugal Masters, his last victory was the 2007 British Masters. Between wins his consistency had been outstanding; 23 top ten finishes from 44 European Tour events, including five second places.

• The Portugal Masters is known for its low scoring. The average winning score of the event, now in its fourth year, is 265.

• There are six players who have been placed in the top ten in two of the three years. They are: Ross Fisher (2008- 3T, 2009 – 7T); Peter Hanson (2008 – 3T, 2009 – 4T); Robert Karlsson (2007 – 2nd, 2008 – 3T); Charl Schwartzel (2007 – 7T, 2009 – 6T); Steve Webster (2007 – 1st; 2008 – 3T) and Lee Westwood (2007- 3T,  2009 – 1st ).
