DID YOU KNOW – OPEN DE ANDALUCIA DE GOLF

• Louis Oosthuizen returns to defend his Open de Andalucia de Golf title. This was the South African’s maiden European Tour win. He arrived in Spain in fine form after finishing second to Rhys Davies in the Trophée Hassan II seven days earlier. Four months later he was to win golf’s biggest prize; The Open Championship.

• The 1999 champion, Miguel Angel Jiménez has an outstanding record in his homeland , with four of his 18 European Tour wins coming on Spanish soil, more than any other country,  including the Turespaña Masters Open Andalucia in 1999. In total the 47 year old has claimed victories in 13 different destinations.

• The Parador de Malaga Golf is one of the oldest courses in the Costa del Sol area, opening in 1928 and is no stranger to hosting European Tour events. Vijay Singh was a winner here in the 1992 Turespaña Masters Open de Andalucia, beating Gary Evans by two strokes. This was followed by Jiménez in 1999, who shot a then course record 62 (-10) in round three on his way to winning by four.

• For the fourth consecutive season the Open de Andalucia de Golf is the first event on mainland Europe.
