DID YOU KNOW – BARCLAYS SCOTTISH OPEN

• Castle Stuart will host the Barclays Scottish Open for the first time.

• Castle Stuart was designed by Mark Parsinen and Gil Hanse and opened in 2009. It was voted the best new international course 2009 and is the most northerly British venue to stage a European Tour event.

• The 2011 Barclays Scottish Open will be the 29 staging of the event, first played in 1972 and won by Neil Coles, beating Brian Huggett in a play-off.

• Castle Stuart is the seventh different venue to host the tournament, following Downfield (1972), Old Course St Andrews (1973), Haggs Castle (1986), Gleneagles Hotel (1987-1994), Carnoustie (1995-1996) and Loch Lomond (1996-2010).

• Castle Stuart is the third links course to be used as a venue, following Old Course, St Andrews and Carnoustie.

• The Barclays Scottish Open has produced 25 different winners from 13 different countries. Of those 25, six have been Major Champions.

• Edoardo Molinari will be aiming to create history by becoming the first player to successfully defend the title. No Italian player has made a successful defence of a European Tour title.

• Ernie Els will be looking to join Ian Woosnam (1987, 1990 and 1996) as the only players to win the Barclays Scottish Open three times. The South African won in 2000 and 2003.

• Paul McGinley will be competing in his 500th official European Tour event. He becomes the third Irishman to pass the figure, following Eamonn Darcy (610) and Des Smyth (594).

• The 2000 event at Loch Lomond  marked the last time on The European Tour International Schedule that two players had successive holes-in-one at the same hole. Jarmo Sandelin, playing in the final group in round three achieved an ace at the par 17th, followed by fellow Swede Mathias Grönberg playing in the first group out in the final round.
