• Current Race to Dubai leader Martin Kaymer, will attempt to win on his fourth consecutive appearance on The European Tour, following victories in the US PGA Championship, KLM Open and Alfred Dunhill Championship. Should he do this he would become the first player since Tiger Woods in 2000 to achieve the feat. The American won the US Open Championship, The Open Championship, US PGA Championship and WGC – NEC Invitational. The last European to accomplish this was Sir Nick Faldo who won the 1988 Volvo Masters, 1989 PGA Championship, 1989 British Masters and 1989 Open de France. The only other player to match Faldo and Woods was Seve Ballersteros in 1986, at the British Masters, Irish Open, Monte Carlo Open and Open de France.

• With the staging of the Andalucia Valderrama Masters, Valderrama will be hosting its third different European Tour stroke play event. The Spanish venue was home to the Volvo Masters between 1988-1996 and 2002-2008 and for the first two years of the WGC – CA Championship in 1999 and 2000.The Robert Trent Jones Snr designed-course made history in 1997 by being the first to host The Ryder Cup in Continental Europe.
