Day two digest: 2021 Cazoo Classic

Everything you need to know from day two in Kent.

London Golf Club

Dale was looking forward to a new experience, Rhys was looking up, Lucas was looking forward and the boys in the hoodies were looking good on day two of the 2021 Cazoo Classic.

Here is everything you need to know from Friday at London Golf Club.

Whitnell learning to lead

Dale Whitnell will be breaking new ground in his European Tour career when he goes out in the final group on Saturday. The Englishman finally gained a Tour card at the 2019 Qualifying School after ten years as a professional and has racked up three top tens since that breakthrough but round three in Ash will be his first time leading. "I’ve never led a tournament," he said. "When I was fourth at Close House I was maybe one behind but I’ve just got to take all the experience I’ve had and hopefully it will stand me in good stead going into the weekend. This is what we’re all here for and fortunately I’m in that position this week so we’ll see what the weekend brings.” He heads into the weekend at ten under.

Enoch on the rise

Rhys Enoch birdied four of his last seven holes to join Whitnell at ten under. The Welshman had missed five of his last eight cuts coming into this week but will now go out in the last group for the second time this season and is hopeful he is on the way up. "I had a little run through the mid part of the season, played nicely and almost led in Gran Canaria, so I’ve been putting myself up there," he said. "But I had a little bit of a four to six week spell where I felt a bit run down, a bit tired, lost a bit of game and hopefully that was rock bottom and I’ve come back up. It’s not my first time leading, Sweden was my first time, got that out of the way so it’s not a new experience anymore. I’ve just got to keep doing what I’m doing and see what happens.”

Bjerregaard building confidence

Lucas Bjerregaard was delighted to keep building his confidence as he continued his recent resurgence. After claiming European Tour wins in 2017 and 2018, the Dane broke into the top 50 on the Official World Golf Ranking and achieved two top 20s in Major Championships in 2019, also making the semi-finals of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play with a victory over Tiger Woods along the way. But that was his last European Tour top ten up until last week's Hero Open, where he held the lead after 36 holes thanks to a second round 62. He carded a 71 in the second round at London Golf Club to sit at six under, and said: “It was nice last weekend, it was the first time in a while I’ve been up there. I didn’t play my best but it was nice to be there and I’m just gaining a little bit of confidence every day so hopefully I continue that over the next couple of days.”

Speaking of Lucas.......

How does this not go in? No, really, we're asking. At least he's laughing about it.

Special stuff from Calum

In the rough, a long way away, surely not? Take a bow Calum Hill.

Boyz in the Hood

It started with Tyrrell Hatton at Wentworth, now they're all wearing them. And it looks good.
