Marc Warren joined fellow Scot Stephen Gallacher as a course record holder at The Celtic Manor Resort with a dazzling 63 on the final day of The Celtic Manor Wales Open.
Warren even had a bogey on his card as he matched Gallacher's third round display.
Resuming four over par and with no chance of victory - German Marcel Siem was 11 under overnight - the 29 year old turned in 33 and birdied the tenth and 11th.
His dropped shot came on the next, but Warren birdied the next two and then eagled the driveable 377 yard 15th.
With the long 18th still to come there was an obvious chance to lower the mark, but Warren parred the last three for an inward 30 and so finished the tournament at four under.
Siem's lead was cut from three to two when Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell, round in 64 on Saturday, sank an 18 footer on the first and birdied the long second as well.
Last week's winner Luke Donald also came into the picture as he eagled the second and birdied the fourth and fifth, and Welsh hope Rhys Davies, who followed three birdies in four holes by holing his 170 yard eight iron for an eagle two at the eighth was likewise moving up.
Both were up into a tie for third on eight under, three back, with Gallacher, Dane Thomas Björn, England's Richard McEvoy and Robert Rock and Dutchman Maarten Lafeber.
Siem threw the title race wide open at the short third when he hit not just one, but two balls in the water on the left and ran up a nightmare quadruple bogey seven.
As that was happening McDowell birdied the fourth from four feet to reach ten under and suddenly was sharing the lead with Davies, whose dream run continued with a 15 foot putt on the ninth for an outward 30 and then a 40 foot effort at the 210 yard next.
They were two ahead of Siem, Donald and Gallacher.
