Wagner moved ahead early in the morning, covering the front nine in just 30 strokes courtesy of four birdies and an eagle. He then dropped his only shot of the day at the 11th hole, before adding three more birdies on the way home to finish on eight under par.

That enabled the 21 year old from Buenos Aires to end the first day at Los Inkas Golf Club with a three shot advantage over his nearest challenger, Paraguay’s Nilson Cabrera.

It was the second successive week that Wagner had led after the first round following an opening round of 64 at the TLA Players Championship, where he eventually finished in a share of fifth place.
