Italian Federico Colombo carded a four under par 67 in the second round of the Saint-Omer Open presented by Neuflize OBC to make up some ground on overnight leader George Coetzee.
The South African had a five under par 66 in the first round to lead by two shots, and was still at that mark after five holes of his second round following a birdie at the first and a bogey at the fourth.
Colombo reached three under with his 67 to put some pressure on Coetzee, while another Italian, Andrea Perrino, was one under for the day after three holes and four under overall.
Dane Thomas Norret signed for a one over par 72 to move back to two under, a score shared with Paraguayan Marco Ruiz and Australian Andrew Tampion, who had second rounds of 70 and 71 respectively.
Colombo said: “I played a good game without doing anything special. I just kept the ball in play and made a few good putts. There is less wind today but it was raining, so the conditions are still tough. And on this course you just need to keep the ball in play.
“Yesterday for the first four or five holes my swing did not feel so good so I was trying to sort that out today. It is difficult on the driving range here because it is downhill and with crosswinds.
“I’ve been playing pretty well in the last few tournaments, but I’m just taking it shot by shot and trying not to look at the leaderboard. It was nice playing with (fellow Italian) Alessandro Tadini today. We live close to each other back home so we play together often, and we are sharing a room this week, so we’re seeing a lot of one another.”
