Coetzee tops second Re-Rank

George Coetzee topped the second Re-Rank of the season after his fine performance at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, where he finished tied second after losing out in a five-man play-off.

The South African stood firm as three players were defeated, but at the fifth extra hole he was beaten to the title by Dane Thomas Björn. Nevertheless, the €106,429 prize money bumped his season earnings up to €588,571 and he rose to 28th place in The Race to Dubai.

Coetzee, who came through the Qualifying School, has had five top tens this season, including joint third in both the Barclays Scottish Open and BMW International Open, and he sits comfortably above Scotsman Scott Jamieson, who topped the first Re-Rank in July and has €497,025.

The Re-Rank gives players in category 11 – those who earned their cards at the 2010 Qualifying School or through finishing in positions 11 to 20 in the Challenge Tour Rankings – the chance to improve their ranking.

Third was Italian Lorenzo Gagli, a Challenge Tour graduate, who has €387,523 thanks largely to a tied third place finish in the Barclays Scottish Open.

The Re-Rank comes into effect for this week’s Omega European Masters.
