ClubGolf inspiring Scottish kids in Aviemore

The Scottish Hydro Challenge hosted by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts puts a huge emphasis on creating a legacy for the future of Scottish golf and this year’s ClubGolf kids clinics during the tournament week were more successful than ever.

Three Challenge Tour players taking part in the event, former champion Jamie McLeary, Jack Doherty and Stuart Davis offered their expertise to young kids who travelled from school for a day out at Macdonald Spey Valley Golf Club.

The kids received some lessons from the touring professionals before going out on the course to watch some golf for themselves and hopefully gaining some inspiration to take up golf as a hobby.

On top of that, kids were given the opportunity to get up close and personal with The Ryder Cup trophy.

ClubGolf’s partnership with the Scottish Hydro Challenge has been hugely successful in recent years and the organisation, which strives to introduce kids to the game at an early age, is rewarded for its efforts with its very own Pro-Am tournament on the Monday of tournament week.

Held for the eighth consecutive year, the ClubGolf Scottish Hydro Challenge Pro-Am allows ClubGolf to show its gratitude to those whose hard work has made Scotland national junior golf programme a success.

Each has played a crucial role in helping the Scottish Government to fulfil its pledge that, by the time the 2014 Ryder Cup match arrives at Gleneagles in 2014, every child in Scotland will have had the opportunity to access golf.

“The work we do would not be possible without the help of our volunteers,” explained ClubGolf Manager Jackie Davidson.

“At clubs up and down the country, hundreds of people give their time and effort to Scotland’s national junior golf programme, and we really cannot thank them enough.”

The pro-am is donated to ClubGolf by EventScotland, the national events agency which supports Scotland’s array of professional golf events, including the Scottish Hydro Challenge, as part of the 2014 Ryder Cup Legacy Programme.
